Women's Health

The women of Alton Physical Therapy now offer services for women's health at our Jerseyville branch located at:

In November of 1999, Alton Physical Therapy began treating women more specifically. Secondary to women seeking more specialized healthcare services by women practitioners, APT expanded services to meet this need.

The Women's Health program is designed for women who wish to maximize their independence from musculoskeletal problems and incontinence disorders that reduce their ability to maintain active lifestyles.

Following a physical therapy evaluation, our therapists will design an individualized treatment program for women suffering from:

Osteoporosis
Women learn weight bearing exercices, strengthening exercises, balance training and dietary recommendations.

Urinary Incontinence
Women learn anatomy, proper instruction of pelvic floor strengthening exercises, the use of biofeedback, bladder training and dietary considerations.

Fibromyalgia
Women are taught relaxation techniques, stress management, flexibility exercises and cardiovascular exercise in conjunction with aquatic physical therapy.

Obstetric Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is offered for musculoskeletal problems associated with pregnancy such as back and neck pain.

Shoulder Dysfunctioal/Lymphedema Management Following Mastectomy
Treatment includes range of motion and strengthening exercises as needed, circulatory exercises, scar massage and lymphatic massage.
